Welcome to Not Wikipedia
A small, deliberately unofficial encyclopedia — currently 4 entries.
Not Wikipedia is a reference-styled record of ideas that circulate by word of mouth or were coined by a specific person, but that do not (yet) meet Wikipedia's bar for an article. The layout copies Wikipedia's on purpose. The content does not pretend to be Wikipedia.
Why this exists
Wikipedia only keeps articles on topics that are notable — roughly, topics that have received significant coverage in reliable, independent, published sources.1 It also does not publish original research or things made up one day.23 The ideas collected here — a hockey scorekeeping notation, a coined word for a kind of sports fan, a homemade memory-and-habit trick — are protologisms and folk practices.4 They are real, they are used, and they have an oral history, but nobody independent has written about them.
So this page serves a specific purpose: it is dated, citable evidence that each idea existed and was in use at a given time. If one of them later gets written up in a newspaper, a journal, a book, or anywhere else that counts, this record can support the creation of a proper Wikipedia article — and the date here marks how far back the concept goes.
This is not a Wikipedia site and is not affiliated with the Wikimedia Foundation. "Wikipedia" is a trademark of the Wikimedia Foundation. The visual style here is an homage and a parody; all article text is written by its authors and is not drawn from Wikipedia.
